Amy, the reality is (and I say this as one who grew up with Great Depression survivors, and clients), the times coming up will require PRACTICAL SKILLS, that can be bartered for food and other goods. Nobody will have money for shows and entertainment.
Do you sew? Can you get a chiropractic kind of gig going? Can you grow some chickens and a rooftop garden? Can you move out of NYC (which will be a living hell soon) to be with family while you learn a practical skill that's barterable?
What I'm saying is that in times coming, "fulfilling our life's dream" will be a luxury, in a time of necessity. If you set your heart on that, you might not be able to do it.
AND it could be a burden on those of your family/friends/neighbors who pursue more practical pursuits. I say this as someone who grew up surrounded by artistic types who thought that the tedious, boring nature of providing the practicalities of life was for lesser beings like me, so they could pursue their muse. In other words, I got to solve the crap problems brought on by their artistic pursuits, and it consumed my life.
Your greatest asset will your friends and family, and it will be hard for everybody, so cultivate those relationships, instead of seeking an audience.

I disagree with this. If shtf people will value entertainment and it will be a way to bring the community together - this should be repaid with offers from others that can sow and things like this. But I value the arts and lived experiences therefore I don't want to see a world were artist are oppressed and forced to join the bump and grind - I want to keep art alive as this is a core part of our souls nourishment.
That said I agree that everyone should be trying to learn some skills and not totally reliant on others.
Also, you are right that people need to get out of the cities. It's not possible for them to complete the next stage of C40 smart cities without creating total chaos.
I would love to see more artist move to rural areas and revive them as without art we are just counting the sunrises.
I moved out of the city and am setting up my little homestead as I can see what's coming. I do hope that my performance skills will be valued and I don't think anyone should be forced to choose between the two. However, I see the truth in the insanity that if we don't relocate out of the city and rebuild in smaller communities we will be forced into their prison cities. I hope you find a way out. Lots of people in small communities that homestead value entertainment and there is also less competition too.

I think you are isolating a main target audience and I don't think this is benefiting you or your work.
All the people who are trying to be more self sustainable are a core part of your market and by saying that you don't care about their health by saying you are sick of it makes me not value your message.
I'm part of the conscious movement of yoga entertainers and I can assure you they would feel insulted by your approach as many of them have been homesteading before the pandemic and with no awareness to the agenda - it's a lifestyle choice for them.
Be conscious of what you are saying and how it affects people as the only people that will be drawn to the anti self sufficient act will be people who won't relate to your message of anti government.
I've been an entertainer for over 40 years, I speak from experience and the near non-existent 'freedom' movement in the Tri-State metropolitan area has zero interest in entertainers and NO I have no resources to travel and stay overnight anywhere, I already explained that in my earlier statement. And no I am not leaving NY, and if you saw how many thousands of books I have everywhere in my flat, (I love having my own personal library), you would never want to move either.
If I thought the government might Maui my city, I would move. Considering the evidence of this, there is no way I would stay. I would find a way.
I do not think your 40 years of experience takes into the fact of the last 3 years and how many people who would have never considered homesteading are making the shift. Peoples attitudes before they started dumping vinyl chloride in our water system and tried to lock us down with Nazi papers are totally different now. People who worked in the system so they could afford the arts would now rather be in rural areas and go to small local performances. Millions of people have made this move in the past few years.
And my point is, smaller communities are better served by entertainers that follow the people leaving. There is a market for what you do, in rural areas.
If you don't want to see this, and if you genuinely can't scrap together a first and last months rent to set up a home base to tour with your show, I understand that. But I'm not one to sit around and moan when there are solutions even if they come with compromises.

Amy, the reality is (and I say this as one who grew up with Great Depression survivors, and clients), the times coming up will require PRACTICAL SKILLS, that can be bartered for food and other goods. Nobody will have money for shows and entertainment.
Do you sew? Can you get a chiropractic kind of gig going? Can you grow some chickens and a rooftop garden? Can you move out of NYC (which will be a living hell soon) to be with family while you learn a practical skill that's barterable?
What I'm saying is that in times coming, "fulfilling our life's dream" will be a luxury, in a time of necessity. If you set your heart on that, you might not be able to do it.
AND it could be a burden on those of your family/friends/neighbors who pursue more practical pursuits. I say this as someone who grew up surrounded by artistic types who thought that the tedious, boring nature of providing the practicalities of life was for lesser beings like me, so they could pursue their muse. In other words, I got to solve the crap problems brought on by their artistic pursuits, and it consumed my life.
Your greatest asset will your friends and family, and it will be hard for everybody, so cultivate those relationships, instead of seeking an audience.

The more you know how to build, make something useful, having different skills, will be a difference between survival or death. Planting, harvesting, finding a water ... it is not easy, and it is a hard work, but at least, I know for whom I'm doing that.

I disagree with this. If shtf people will value entertainment and it will be a way to bring the community together - this should be repaid with offers from others that can sow and things like this. But I value the arts and lived experiences therefore I don't want to see a world were artist are oppressed and forced to join the bump and grind - I want to keep art alive as this is a core part of our souls nourishment.
That said I agree that everyone should be trying to learn some skills and not totally reliant on others.
Also, you are right that people need to get out of the cities. It's not possible for them to complete the next stage of C40 smart cities without creating total chaos.
I would love to see more artist move to rural areas and revive them as without art we are just counting the sunrises.
I moved out of the city and am setting up my little homestead as I can see what's coming. I do hope that my performance skills will be valued and I don't think anyone should be forced to choose between the two. We can be both practical and silly and the world will certainly need silly in the darkness.
Well that is the best solution if you want to avoid what is coming! You want to complain but you don't want to offer other solutions? I lost my business in the madness so I completely relate. However, I see the truth in the insanity that if we don't relocate out of the city and rebuild in smaller communities we will be forced into their prison cities. I hope you find a way out. Lots of people in small communities that homestead value entertainment and there is also less competition too.

I think you are isolating a main target audience and I don't think this is benefiting you or your work.
All the people who are trying to be more self sustainable are a core part of your market and by saying that you don't care about their health by saying you are sick of it makes me not value your message.
I'm part of the conscious movement of yoga entertainers and I can assure you they would feel insulted by your approach as many of them have been homesteading before the pandemic and with no awareness to the agenda - it's a lifestyle choice for them.
Be conscious of what you are saying and how it affects people as the only people that will be drawn to the anti self sufficient act will be people who won't relate to your message of anti government.
I've been an entertainer for over 40 years, I speak from experience and the near non-existent 'freedom' movement in the Tri-State metropolitan area has zero interest in entertainers and NO I have no resources to travel and stay overnight anywhere, I already explained that in my earlier statement. And no I am not leaving NY, and if you saw how many thousands of books I have everywhere in my flat, (I love having my own personal library), you would never want to move either.
If I thought the government might Maui my city, I would move. Considering the evidence of this, there is no way I would stay. I would find a way.
I do not think your 40 years of experience takes into the fact of the last 3 years and how many people who would have never considered homesteading are making the shift. Peoples attitudes before they started dumping vinyl chloride in our water system and tried to lock us down with Nazi papers are totally different now. People who worked in the system so they could afford the arts would now rather be in rural areas and go to small local performances. Millions of people have made this move in the past few years.
And my point is, smaller communities are better served by entertainers that follow the people leaving. There is a market for what you do, in rural areas.
If you don't want to see this, and if you genuinely can't scrap together a first and last months rent to set up a home base to tour with your show, I understand that. But I'm not one to sit around and moan when there are solutions even if they come with compromises.
